Sold40mmStainless Steel

A Zenith Elite Ultra Thin ref. 03.2010.681/11.C493, white dial, black Roman numerals and a small seconds at nine. Dauphine hands sweep across a dial so clean it almost looks like enamel. The 40mm steel case is just 8.3mm thick, so it slips under a cuff without a second thought. Inside is the automatic Elite 681 calibre, visible through the open caseback beneath sapphire. It is fitted to a black alligator strap.

Zenith built its reputation on the El Primero of 1969, one of the first automatic chronographs. In 1994 the brand introduced the Elite calibre, a thin, refined automatic designed as the dress-watch counterpart to its famous chronograph. The Elite became one of Zenith's core movements, powering its slim, classic models for decades. The Elite Ultra Thin was its showcase, a watch designed around how thin and clean Zenith could make it. It is the other half of Zenith's story, the quiet one.

The Roman numerals do something most dress watches avoid. They are black, bold and confident on a white dial, and they give the watch a classic look rooted in traditional clocks. Then pick it up and feel the case: 8.3mm with an automatic movement inside, which is genuinely thin. The Elite 681 is a manufacture calibre from a house better known for chronographs, and it shows how well Zenith understands elegance. Turn it over and the movement is right there under sapphire. It is a true dress watch from a manufacture most people associate with speed. Curated with intent.
