6426, OYSTER PRECISION, EXPLORER DIAL
Sold34mmStainless Steel
A ref. 6426 Oyster Precision in steel with a black Explorer-style dial. The numerals 3, 6 and 9 stand bold on the black, with markers at the other hours, the layout made famous by the Explorer. The dial has developed a patina that gives it warmth and individuality, no two quite alike. The 34mm Oyster case is time only, with a domed acrylic crystal and a smooth bezel. Inside is a manual-wind Rolex calibre, wound by hand at the crown. It came on an Oyster bracelet, which pairs naturally with the sporty dial.
The Oyster Precision was Rolex's manual-wind line, built on the Oyster case the brand patented in 1926. The 6426 had a production run spanning decades, making it one of the most enduring vintage Rolex references. Rolex offered it with a range of dials, and the Explorer-style 3-6-9 layout is among the most sought after. That dial borrowed from the Explorer, the watch Rolex associated with mountaineering and exploration in the 1950s. On the smaller, simpler 6426, the same design reads more understated and more personal.
An Explorer dial on a manual-wind Rolex is one of those combinations collectors whisper about. The 3, 6 and 9 give it the tool watch attitude of the Explorer, while the hand-wound movement and 34mm case keep it quiet and intimate. Then there is the patina, which turns a black dial into something with real character, the kind of thing you cannot fake. Winding it each morning becomes a small ritual you start to look forward to. It is the Explorer look for someone who prefers the backroads. Curated with intent.
