431.13.42.51.01.001, DE VILLE CO-AXIAL CHRONOGRAPH, BLACK DIAL
Sold42mmStainless Steel
An Omega De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph, ref. 431.13.42.51.01.001, in a 42mm steel case. The black dial carries Roman numeral hour markers and a clean two-register layout, with small seconds and the chronograph counters arranged for easy reading. Inside is the Omega calibre 9300, an in-house column wheel chronograph with the co-axial escapement, a silicon balance spring and a 60-hour power reserve. Turn it over and the movement shows through a sapphire caseback. It is chronometer certified and water resistant to 100 meters. It came on a black leather strap, as elegant as a chronograph gets.
Omega unveiled its in-house calibre 9300 in 2011, its first fully in-house co-axial chronograph movement. It was a milestone for the brand: a column wheel chronograph with a silicon balance spring and a clever layout that brought hours and minutes of elapsed time together on a single subdial. Omega first placed it in the Speedmaster, then gave it to the De Ville line in a dress case. The De Ville family has been Omega's home for formal watches since the 1960s, when the name first appeared on the Seamaster De Ville. Pairing that dressy heritage with a high-spec modern chronograph made perfect sense. This reference is the result, in black with Roman numerals.
We sourced this watch because it hides a lot of engineering behind a very polite face. The calibre 9300 is one of Omega's most impressive movements, and you can watch it work through the caseback: a column wheel, co-axial escapement, silicon hairspring, all the good stuff. On the dial side, the black finish and Roman numerals keep things formal, so it reads as a dress watch first and a chronograph second. That is a rare balance. Most chronographs want to look sporty, but this one would rather wear a suit. It is the De Ville at its most quietly technical. Curated with intent.
