3502.73, SPEEDMASTER AUTOMATIC, BLACK MOTHER-OF-PEARL
Sold39mmStainless Steel
A ref. 3502.73, a reduced-size Speedmaster Automatic with a dial cut from black mother-of-pearl. That dial is the whole story: under the light, the black breaks into flashes of iridescent color, then settles back into black when you tilt it away. Arabic numerals mark the hours, a departure from the batons on the classic Speedmaster. The case is the compact Speedmaster Reduced format, with crown guards and the black tachymeter bezel. Inside runs the calibre 3220 automatic chronograph. It was with us on a black alligator strap, and that strap made the dial look even richer.
The Speedmaster Reduced arrived in 1988, giving the Moonwatch silhouette a more compact case and a self-winding chronograph. Over the years Omega used it as a canvas, offering the reduced Speedmaster in a run of dial variations beyond the standard black and white. The 3502.73 belongs to that group, with a mother-of-pearl dial and Arabic numerals in place of the usual indexes. Mother-of-pearl is a natural material, so no two dials look exactly alike. That makes each example a little different in how it plays with light. It is one of the lesser-seen corners of the Speedmaster world.
We sourced this watch for the dial, plain and simple. Black mother-of-pearl on a Speedmaster is not something you see every day, and in person it moves in a way photos never fully catch. The Arabic numerals give it a softer, almost dressy feel without losing the chronograph character. On a black alligator strap the whole watch turns more refined, a Speedmaster for the evening rather than the launch pad. Natural material means this exact dial pattern exists nowhere else. For a collector who already has the classics, this is the one that makes people lean in. Curated with intent.
