Sold44.25mmBlack Ceramic

An Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, ref. 311.92.44.51.01.005, the version collectors call the Black Black. Everything is black. The case and bezel are black ceramic at 44.25mm, the dial is matte black ceramic, and the indices and hands are blackened and filled with black Super-LumiNova. Even the tachymeter scale is black on black, readable only when light hits it at the right angle. Inside is the Co-Axial chronograph calibre 9300, visible through a sapphire caseback, with subdials at three and nine and a date window. It is worn on a black strap.

Omega introduced the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon in 2013, the first Speedmaster built with a full black ceramic case. It took the Moonwatch silhouette and recast it in a material that is lighter than steel and highly scratch resistant. The name nods to the far side of the moon, first seen by human eyes when the Apollo 8 crew orbited it in 1968. In 2014, Omega took the concept to its logical end with the Black Black, removing every last contrast from the dial. Even the lume was made black. It became one of the most talked about Speedmasters of the decade, and it still has nothing quite like it in the catalogue.

We sourced this watch because nobody else would have the nerve to make it. Black lume sounds like a contradiction until you see it: by day, the hands and indices read as subtle ghosts of themselves, and the whole watch looks carved from a single block of stone. It is a Speedmaster that rewards attention instead of demanding it. The ceramic means it wears lighter than you expect for its size. Flip it over and the calibre 9300 adds the only real colour to the watch. It is the most uncompromising Moonwatch Omega has ever made. Curated with intent.
