310.32.42.50.02.001, SPEEDMASTER SILVER SNOOPY AWARD, 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Sold42mmStainless Steel

A ref. 310.32.42.50.02.001, the Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary. The dial is cut from solid 925 silver, framed by a blue ceramic bezel and anchored by deep blue subdials. At nine o'clock, Snoopy rides a small blue disc, and behind him, a Master Chronometer calibre 3861 keeps time. Turn the watch over and the story continues: start the chronograph and Snoopy, aboard his command module, circles the moon across the sapphire caseback. It is a Moonwatch that rewards the person wearing it as much as anyone looking at it.

In April 1970, an oxygen tank failure turned Apollo 13 into a fight to get home. With the guidance computer powered down, the crew used a Speedmaster to time a critical 14-second engine burn by hand. NASA's astronauts honored Omega with the Silver Snoopy Award, given for contributions to human spaceflight safety. Omega marked the 45th anniversary in 2015 with a limited edition, and in 2020 returned for the 50th with this reference, which brought animation to the caseback for the first time. This example was sourced in Japan.

We bought this watch for the moment you turn it over. Start the chronograph and Snoopy lifts off, riding his command module across a black lacquered caseback and circling the moon in real time. It is the kind of detail most brands would never bother to build, and Omega built it into a Moonwatch. Flip it back and the dial keeps going: a blue ceramic bezel, which is rare enough on a Speedmaster, and a silver Snoopy sitting in a solid silver dial. There is nothing else in the Speedmaster line that does all of this at once. This one comes on the 3861-generation bracelet, the right way to wear it and the harder way to find it. Curated with intent.
