A Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin, ref. Q3204420. The silver dial is split into two textures: a guilloche centre that catches light in fine, rippling lines, surrounded by a smooth chapter ring of Arabic numerals. It sits inside the rectangular Reverso case with its signature gadroons at top and bottom, measuring 40mm by 24mm and only around 7mm thick. Powered by the Jaeger-LeCoultre quartz calibre 657, it is built to slip under a cuff and stay there. Flip the case on its cradle and the dial disappears entirely, leaving a plain metal back. It comes on a brown alligator strap, and it was photographed with its JLC papers, stamped by Dubai Duty Free, where it was originally sold.

The Reverso was born in 1931 from a practical problem: British officers playing polo in India kept shattering their watch crystals. Jaeger-LeCoultre's answer was a case that could slide and flip over in its frame, protecting the dial behind a solid metal back. It became one of the great designs of the Art Deco era and has never really left production since. The Grande Reverso line took the original proportions and stretched them to a more generous rectangle, and the Ultra Thin models pushed the case as slim as the swivel mechanism allows. This reference keeps every line of that architecture in a case thin enough to disappear on the wrist. Nearly a century on, the shape is still unmistakable from across a room.

We sourced this one for the dial, and for the flip. The guilloche centre is the kind of detail Jaeger-LeCoultre does better than almost anyone, a pattern that changes as you tilt your wrist. The Arabic numerals are pure Art Deco, set in a ring around it like a frame around a painting. Then you turn the case over, and the whole thing vanishes behind a clean sheet of metal. No other watch in the world does that move with this much history behind it. The brown alligator strap warms up the silver and keeps it soft. Curated with intent.
