142.8.92S, MASTER GEOGRAPHIC, BLACK DIAL
Sold38mmStainless Steel
A Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic, ref. 142.8.92S, in steel with a black dial. This is a travelling watch done with real thought: a second time zone in its own subdial, a ring of world city names to tell you which zone you are reading, a power reserve indicator and the date, all arranged across a 38mm face. The black dial gives the whole layout a sharper, more technical edge than the silver versions most people picture. Inside is the automatic calibre 929/3, a Jaeger-LeCoultre movement built for exactly this set of functions. It came to us on a navy alligator strap, which pairs beautifully with the black dial. Small case, big ambitions.
The Master Geographic belongs to the Master Control family that Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced in 1992, every watch in it passing the brand's 1,000 Hours Control before leaving Le Sentier. Within that family it was the traveller's watch, built around the idea that a second time zone should come with context. Rather than a bare 24-hour hand, Jaeger-LeCoultre gave the wearer a disc of city names, so the home time on the subdial is always tied to a place. Pairing that with a power reserve made it as practical as it was charming. The calibre 929/3 was developed in house for the job. It remains one of the most thoughtful dual time complications of its era.
We sourced this watch for the city names. Most dual time watches give you a number and leave the rest to you, but the Geographic tells you where that time belongs, and there is something genuinely romantic about it. Add a power reserve and the date, and you have a dial with more going on than almost anything at 38mm. The black dial is the version we wanted: it makes the white printing and the city ring pop with real contrast. It wears like a dress watch and works like a tool, which is a rare combination. And it comes from Jaeger-LeCoultre's golden era of the Master Control line. Curated with intent.
