SBGM007, AUTOMATIC GMT, SILVER DIAL
Sold39.5mmStainless Steel
A Grand Seiko SBGM007, the automatic GMT with a silver-white dial. The dial is crisp and bright, with polished applied indices, a 24-hour scale printed on the dial, and a blue GMT hand that tracks a second time zone. That blue hand is the only colour on the watch, and it does exactly enough. The case is stainless steel at 39.5mm, sized like a classic dress watch but built with the sharp, flat surfaces Grand Seiko is known for. Inside is the mechanical calibre 9S56, an automatic movement with 72 hours of power reserve. It is worn on a steel bracelet.
Grand Seiko began in 1960 with a simple ambition: build a Japanese watch that could meet or beat the best of Switzerland. When the brand revived its mechanical line in 1998, it did so with the 9S calibres, movements developed and assembled in house and regulated to Grand Seiko's own standard of minus three to plus five seconds per day. The 9S56 brought a GMT complication into that family. The SBGM series was built around it, and the SBGM007 is the silver-dial, steel-bracelet expression of the idea. It is a travel watch from a company that treats accuracy as a point of honour, and that alone makes it worth knowing.
We sourced this watch because it is a GMT that does not shout. Most travel watches lean on bicolour bezels and oversized cases. This one keeps the 24-hour scale on the dial and lets a single blue hand do the work, so it still reads as a dress watch across a dinner table. Look closely at the indices and hands, though, and the Grand Seiko obsession shows: every facet is polished to a mirror and catches light from a different angle. At 39.5mm it wears the way a watch like this should. It is the kind of piece that quietly makes other GMTs look overdesigned. Curated with intent.
