WSSA0071, SANTOS DE CARTIER, BLUE DIAL
Sold39.8mm x 47.5mmStainless Steel2026
A Santos de Cartier in the large size, ref. WSSA0071, in stainless steel measuring 39.8mm across. The blue sunray dial carries Cartier's Roman numerals around a railway minute track, with a date window at six and polished steel sword hands. The square case is softened at every corner, and the exposed screws on the bezel and bracelet are the signature Santos detail. Inside is Cartier's in-house automatic calibre 1847 MC, under a sapphire crystal. The steel bracelet uses the QuickSwitch system for tool-free strap changes and SmartLink for sizing without a screwdriver, and the crown is set with a faceted blue synthetic spinel.
Louis Cartier designed the original Santos in 1904 for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who wanted to read the time without taking his hands off the controls. It is widely regarded as one of the first wristwatches made for a man. The current generation arrived in 2018 with a reworked case that flows into the bracelet, the QuickSwitch and SmartLink systems, and the 1847 MC movement. This example is registered with Cartier Care, and its international limited warranty is extended through March 2034 and transfers to the next owner.
The blue dial is the reason. In most light it reads deep navy, then the sunray finish catches and it turns bright against the silvered Roman numerals. The exposed screws on the bezel give a square dress shape an industrial edge, which is exactly the tension that has kept the Santos relevant for more than a century. At 9.38mm it slips under a cuff, yet the integrated bracelet lets it wear like a sports watch. QuickSwitch means one watch can change character in seconds. It looks right with a suit and with a t-shirt, and the blue dial is the most expressive of the steel Santos range. Curated with intent.
