W7100041, CALIBRE DE CARTIER, BLACK DIAL
Sold42mmStainless Steel
A ref. 2763-1130-55, the Blancpain Léman Complete Calendar in steel. The black dial carries a full calendar laid out with restraint: day and month in twin windows beneath twelve, the date read by a slim pointer around the edge. A small seconds subdial adds a quiet rhythm at the bottom of the dial, and the 100-hour power reserve is noted right there in print, a promise made in plain sight. The Léman case is round, sporty in proportion and finished with care, more relaxed than a pure dress watch. It is a complicated watch that never feels fussy. This one wears on a black textile strap, which leans into the Léman's sporting side.
The Calibre de Cartier arrived in 2010 as the debut of the calibre 1904-PS MC, the first movement fully developed and produced in house by Cartier's manufacture. The name was the point: after a century of shape watches celebrated for their cases, Cartier wanted a watch named for its engine. The 1904 in the calibre name refers to the year Louis Cartier created the Santos for aviator Alberto Santos Dumont. The collection pushed Cartier into larger, sportier territory and opened the door to chronographs and dive watches that followed. It marked the moment Cartier stepped into the manufacture conversation on its own terms.
We sourced it because it is Cartier showing its hand. Look through the caseback and you see the 1904-PS MC, the first movement Cartier designed and built entirely itself, and the watch was literally named after it. Then look at the dial: those big Roman numerals are pure Cartier, but stretched and thickened into something bold and modern. The black dial version is the one we wanted, sharper and more graphic than the silver. It is a Cartier for someone who cares about what is inside as much as the name on the dial. That is a rarer combination than it should be. Curated with intent.
