Sold39mmStainless Steel
An Omega Constellation Globemaster, ref. 130.33.39.21.03.001, in a 39mm steel case. The blue dial is a true pie-pan, faceted into sixteen-sided slopes that drop away from the center, with a sunburst finish that ripples as the light moves. Around it sits a fluted bezel, the kind of hand-finished detail that went out of style decades ago and looks better than ever here. Inside is the Omega calibre 8900, a Master Chronometer certified to METAS standards, visible through the display caseback. It is a dress watch with the technical spec of a modern tool watch. We photographed it on both a steel mesh bracelet and a black alligator strap, two very different looks from one watch.
Omega introduced the Globemaster at Baselworld in 2015 as the first watch to be certified a Master Chronometer, a standard developed with the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology, METAS. That certification tests the finished watch for accuracy, power reserve, water resistance and resistance to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss. The design looked backward as boldly as the movement looked forward. The pie-pan dial and fluted bezel come straight from the Constellation models of the 1950s and 1960s, among the most beloved Omegas ever made. The Globemaster name itself had appeared on Constellation-era watches for certain markets. It brought the soul of the vintage Constellation into the modern era.
We sourced this watch for the pie-pan dial. It is one of the most beautiful shapes Omega ever put on a watch, and on the Globemaster it is executed in blue sunburst so the facets catch light at different angles every second. Then there is the fluted bezel, a vintage dress-watch detail that almost nobody in the industry still makes in steel. Put those together over the first movement ever to earn Master Chronometer status and you have something quite special: a 1950s face with a 2015 heart. At 39mm it is the right size for the design. And between the mesh bracelet and the black alligator, it shows two completely different personalities. Curated with intent.
